Prep days
The two days before the congress, we gather to bring things up - carry in equipment, build the Mate wall, set up lights, organize the chairs and tables, set up the window covers... Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday from around noon, till the evening.
Congress days - this is when we need the most of you!
As things get going, throughout the days, our tasks change. The shifts will start around 10am, and last up to around midnight. No one is expected to be there at all times – we share the shifts and agree on the schedule beforehand.
Entrance
must be covered by someone at all times. Volunteers at the entrance make sure all people entering are allowed - they must have this year's BalCCon bracelet.
Camera duty
Sitting behind the camera to help the media team start/stop/adjust the recordings of sessions.
Mic duty
We need to announce each speaker before their presentation, as well as provide a microphone around the audience during the Q&A.
Misc
We fix what needs to be fixed, help speakers and guests when we can, and enjoy the congress!
Cleanup day
The day after the congress, a few of us gather to disassemble the sets, carry things out and drive them back to storage. This is a couple hours in the morning.

Additional details
Do I have to be there all the time?
No, we all need rest. Ideally, you can come in most days for a few hours. If you have any limits regarding this that you know beforehand (i.e. “I can’t come in on workdays at all”), note them in your application.
How do I know what I do when?
We will maintain a schedule, so it will be clear who has what shift where.
What if I have to skip my shift?
You should find another volunteer to cover for you, and you can always ask the volunteer lead to help you with this.
What’s a Mate wall?
It’s a wall of beer crates with LEDs, working as a screen. We connect the crates with zip ties and set up each pixel (bottle hole) with paper and a LED manually.
